JEDDAH —After consulting high clerics and islamic scholars over the rights of women sanctioned under the koran, king Abdullah of Saudi Arabia decided to re-confirm the right of saudi arabian women to bear children.

This basic right that women of the world have enjoyed since the beginnings of history, as it stands re-confirmed in the conservative islamic kingdom, gives the saudi arabian woman dignity and is an important step towards gender equality.

Despite objections by ultraconservative clerics, who claim that the right to create life belongs only to Allah, the King decided to base his policy on the advice of his more moderate clerics.

However, the King added, they (meaning the women) and their byproduct (meaning their children) will continue to be the property of men.
